Psychiatric Disorder

A clinically significant disturbance in an individual’s thoughts, emotions, or behaviors that results in distress, impaired functioning, or a diminished quality of life.

 

Diagnosis:

The identification and classification of a psychiatric disorder based on specific symptoms, signs, and criteria outlined in diagnostic manuals such as the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition).

Mental Health:

The overall state of well-being encompassing emotional, psychological, and social aspects, indicating the absence of mental disorders.

 

Neurodevelopmental Disorders:

Conditions that affect brain development and functioning, including autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and intellectual disabilities.

 

Anxiety Disorders:

Conditions marked by excessive worry, fear, or nervousness, including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder.

 

Psychotic Disorders:

Conditions involving a loss of touch with reality, often manifested through hallucinations, delusions, and impaired thinking, as seen in schizophrenia.
