Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

An essential healthcare professional trained to provide immediate medical care in emergencies. EMTs are skilled in assessing, stabilizing, and transporting patients to medical facilities.

Ambulance

A specially equipped vehicle used for transporting patients to medical facilities, staffed by EMTs or paramedics trained to administer medical aid during transit.

EMS (Emergency Medical Services)

A comprehensive system that provides emergency medical care outside of a hospital setting. It includes ambulance services, dispatch centers, first responders, EMTs, and paramedics.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Fundamental medical care provided by EMTs to stabilize patients in emergency situations. BLS techniques include cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), controlling bleeding, and managing airways.

Patient Assessment

A systematic process conducted by EMTs to evaluate a patient’s condition, including assessing vital signs, obtaining medical history, and identifying injuries or illnesses.

Trauma

Physical injuries resulting from accidents, falls, or other traumatic events. EMTs are trained to recognize and provide immediate care for trauma patients, including managing fractures, controlling bleeding, and preventing shock.

Medical Emergencies

Critical health conditions requiring immediate medical attention, such as heart attacks, strokes, allergic reactions, or diabetic emergencies. EMTs are trained to recognize and initiate appropriate interventions for these conditions.

Emergency Response Plan

Predefined protocols and procedures followed by EMTs during emergency situations to ensure efficient and effective care delivery. These plans outline roles, responsibilities, and steps for managing various types of emergencies.

Triage

The process of prioritizing patient care based on the severity of their condition. EMTs use triage systems to quickly assess patients and allocate resources accordingly, ensuring that those with life-threatening injuries or illnesses receive immediate attention.

Continuing Education

Ongoing training and professional development programs designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of EMTs. Continuing education ensures that EMTs stay current with advances in medical techniques, equipment, and protocols, enabling them to provide high-quality care.
