Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)

A blood test that provides important information about a person’s overall health, focusing on various aspects of metabolism, including electrolyte balance, kidney function, liver function, and blood glucose levels.

Electrolytes

Essential minerals such as sodium, potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate, which help regulate fluid balance, nerve function, and muscle contractions in the body.

Glucose

A type of sugar that serves as the primary source of energy for the body’s cells. Abnormal glucose levels can indicate diabetes or other metabolic disorders.

Kidney Function Tests

Blood tests that assess the kidneys’ ability to filter waste products and maintain proper fluid and electrolyte balance in the body.

Liver Function Tests

Blood tests that evaluate the liver’s ability to process nutrients, detoxify harmful substances, and produce proteins essential for various bodily functions.

Bilirubin

A yellowish pigment produced during the breakdown of red blood cells. Elevated levels may indicate liver or bile duct disorders.

Albumin

A protein produced by the liver that helps maintain proper fluid balance in the body and serves as a carrier for hormones, vitamins, and drugs.

Total Protein

The combined measurement of albumin and other proteins in the blood. Abnormal levels may indicate liver or kidney disease, malnutrition, or other health conditions.

Calcium

An essential mineral that plays a vital role in bone health, muscle function, nerve transmission, and blood clotting.

Phosphorus

A mineral that works closely with calcium in bone formation, energy metabolism, and cellular signaling pathways.

Creatinine

A waste product produced by muscle metabolism that is filtered out of the blood by the kidneys. Elevated levels may indicate impaired kidney function.

Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)

A waste product formed from the breakdown of proteins. Elevated levels may indicate kidney dysfunction or dehydration.

ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase)

An enzyme found primarily in the liver. Elevated levels may indicate liver damage or disease.

AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase)

An enzyme found in various tissues, including the liver, heart, and muscles. Elevated levels may indicate liver or muscle damage.

Alkaline Phosphatase

An enzyme found in the liver, bones, and other tissues. Elevated levels may indicate liver or bone disorders.

Chloride

An electrolyte essential for maintaining proper fluid balance, nerve function, and acid-base balance in the body.

Sodium

An electrolyte crucial for regulating fluid balance, nerve function, and muscle contractions. Abnormal levels may indicate dehydration, kidney dysfunction, or other health issues.

Potassium

An electrolyte necessary for proper muscle and nerve function, as well as maintaining heart rhythm and fluid balance.

CO2 (Carbon Dioxide)

A measure of the bicarbonate concentration in the blood, which helps regulate the body’s acid-base balance.

Anion Gap

A calculated parameter that helps assess acid-base balance in the body by comparing the concentrations of positively and negatively charged ions in the blood.
