Terminal Condition

A medical condition that is considered incurable and ultimately leads to the end of life. Terminal conditions are often characterized by progressive deterioration and the absence of effective treatment options.

 

Palliative Care:

Specialized medical care focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a terminal illness. The goal is to improve the quality of life for both the patient and their family.

 

Hospice Care:

A type of care that emphasizes comfort and support for individuals in the final stages of a terminal illness. Hospice care can be provided at home or in a specialized facility.

 

Advance Directive:

Legal documents that outline an individual’s preferences for medical treatment in case they become unable to make decisions. This may include decisions about life-sustaining measures.

 

DNR (Do Not Resuscitate):

A medical order indicating that in the event of cardiac or respiratory arrest, no attempts should be made to revive the patient. It reflects the patient’s choice to avoid aggressive life-saving measures.

 

Quality of Life:

A subjective measure of well-being that considers various factors such as physical health, emotional well-being, and the ability to engage in meaningful activities. Often a crucial consideration in terminal conditions.

 

Grief Counseling:

Therapeutic support provided to individuals and families coping with the emotional challenges associated with a terminal diagnosis and the impending loss of a loved one.

 

EOL (End of Life) Planning:

The process of making decisions and preparations for the last stages of life, including medical treatment preferences, funeral arrangements, and distribution of assets.

 

Legacy Project:

A creative or meaningful endeavor undertaken by an individual facing a terminal condition to leave a lasting impact or record of their life for future generations.

 

Hospice Volunteer:

Compassionate individuals who offer their time and support to patients and families receiving hospice care. They may provide companionship, run errands, or offer emotional support.
